A Photographic Study of European Architectural Art and Place

Over four decades of observation, photography, and travel, Lens & Legacy Studio explores ceilings, walls, and architectural art as living records of craftsmanship and time. These studies are reimagined as tactile, limited-edition hand-bound books and archival works — quiet objects designed to preserve the slow art of seeing.

2 copy.png

Lens & Legacy Studio developed gradually rather than through a single plan. It grew from decades of photographic observation, long-term travel, and a shared visual approach that evolved across generations. What began as independent practices in photography, research, and exploration has come together as a focused photographic practice centred on European architectural art and place.

The work is informed by years spent living and travelling across countries, returning to historic sites over time and observing how architecture, interior art, and landscape reveal different layers of meaning through repeated study. Photography serves not only as documentation, but as a method of examining how artistic detail, craftsmanship, and environment shape our understanding of place.

As the practice developed, so did the need to organise and present the work in more structured forms. Images gathered over many years are shaped into coherent bodies of work, with handcrafted books and archival editions providing a considered format for sequencing, context, and long-term preservation. Bookmaking is approached as an extension of the photographic process, combining image selection, research, and material decision-making into a single outcome.

Lens & Legacy Studio is a collaborative practice built around complementary perspectives. One viewpoint works from the ground through analogue and digital photography, focusing on detail, interior spaces, and visual study; the other expands outward through aerial photography, examining architectural context, structure, and surrounding landscape. Together, these approaches form a broader study of how art and architecture exist within place.

The practice operates independently and at a deliberate pace, allowing projects to develop through observation, return visits, and careful editing rather than trend-driven production. Books, prints, and photographic works are released in limited editions to maintain quality, clarity of focus, and production integrity.

At its core, Lens & Legacy Studio is committed to documenting European architectural art with accuracy, attention, and respect for craft. The work prioritises careful looking over spectacle, producing photographic studies and physical editions intended to offer lasting value for collectors, researchers, and those interested in the enduring relationship between art, architecture, and lived experience.

The Studio

The studio is the working centre of the practice, where photography, research, and craft come together through a focused and self-directed process. It supports the development of long-form photographic studies centred on European architectural art, including painted ceilings, decorative interiors, and historic spaces. Each body of work is developed gradually through observation, return visits, careful editing, and material consideration.

At Lens & Legacy Studio, photography is approached as both documentation and interpretation. Working across analogue and digital formats, images are created and edited with attention to structure, detail, and the relationship between art and architecture. Handcrafted books, archival print editions, and carefully produced study works provide a physical form for presenting these photographic studies in coherent, enduring formats.

The ongoing series Always Look Up forms a central part of the practice, focusing on architectural ceilings and elevated ornamentation gathered through years of travel and study. The work expands beyond ceilings to include wall art, interiors, and architectural context, reflecting a broader interest in how artistic detail shapes the experience of place.

Quiet Correspondence extends this approach through periodic collector mailings that share curated photographic studies, printed works, and research-driven material designed to connect audiences more directly with the evolving projects.

All works are produced in limited quantities to maintain quality, consistency, and clear authorship. The emphasis remains on thoughtful production rather than volume, allowing each edition to reflect the same care present in the photographic process itself.

Who We Are

Lens & Legacy Studio is an independent photographic practice founded by Audrey Marie and Turner Jack Hunter. Their work brings together analogue and digital photography, aerial perspectives, and ongoing research to explore European architectural art and place through image-led study.

Audrey Marie works primarily through ground-based photography, drawing on analogue training, darkroom practice, and decades of photographic experience to document interiors, ornamental detail, and artistic craftsmanship.

Turner Jack Hunter contributes structural and contextual perspectives through ground and aerial photography, examining how architecture exists within its wider landscape and environment.

Together, they approach photography as a long-form practice shaped by travel, observation, and careful visual analysis. Projects evolve over time through continued exploration, research, and editing rather than rapid production or trend-based output.

What We Do

The practice centres on documenting architectural art — ceilings, wall paintings, decorative interiors, and historic structures — through both analogue and contemporary photographic methods. Images are developed and refined with attention to composition, material quality, and archival longevity.

Selected works are presented through handcrafted books produced in limited editions, where sequencing, design, and material choices form an extension of the photographic process. Alongside books, the studio produces archival print editions and collectible photographic works drawn from ongoing studies.

Why We Work This Way

Lens & Legacy Studio operates independently to maintain control over pace, editing, and production standards. Projects are developed through sustained observation and research, allowing each body of work to be shaped by place, subject, and time rather than external production demands.

Bookmaking and print production are treated as integral parts of the photographic practice, creating physical formats that support long-term engagement with the work.

Looking Ahead

Current projects continue to expand the study of European architectural art through new locations, return visits, and evolving series. Future releases will build upon established bodies of work while introducing new perspectives that connect interior artistic detail with architectural and landscape context.

The practice remains open to collaborations with cultural institutions, archives, and organisations aligned with values of documentation, preservation, and thoughtful interpretation.

Our Approach

Attention — Careful observation and informed visual study
Integrity — Respect for subject, process, and material
Authorship — Independent control of edit, pace, and production
Craft — Integration of analogue methods and hand production
Preservation — Creating photographic works intended for long-term value

Our Goals

To build a cohesive archive of photographic studies focused on European architectural art and place
To publish limited-edition books that present long-form photographic projects with clarity and structure
To develop collectible photographic works produced with archival standards
To maintain a sustainable, independent practice grounded in quality, consistency, and focused creative direction

Lens & Legacy Studio – Collaborations & Architectural Documentation

At Lens & Legacy Studio, we are passionate about capturing the artistry, history, and design of architecture and interiors. Led by Audrey Marie and her son Turner Jack, our work spans decades of travel and research, focusing on historic buildings, churches, palaces, hotels, and unique spaces where architecture tells a story.

We specialise in high-resolution photography that documents the craftsmanship, detail, and atmosphere of interiors and exteriors for research, collector study sets, exhibitions, and archival purposes.

Our Collaborative Approach

We believe every space has a story, and we approach collaborations with a focus on mutual benefit and respect for historic and private properties. We have experience working with:

  • Historic hotels and boutique properties – photographing lobbies, salons, ballrooms, and decorative ceilings.

  • Churches and sacred architecture – documenting ceilings, altars, wall panels, and ornamental details.

  • Unique restaurants and cultural spaces – capturing interiors where design, architecture, and atmosphere converge.

  • Private or heritage buildings – highlighting original craftsmanship and decorative artistry.

We are not travel bloggers or influencers; our work is rooted in artistic research, educational study, and collector-quality documentation. Every collaboration is approached with professionalism, discretion, and a commitment to showcasing the beauty and historical value of each space.

What We Offer

In exchange for access or collaboration, we provide:

  • High-quality photography of interiors, ceilings, and architectural details for your use in archives, marketing, or decoration.

  • Curated study sets of images that highlight the unique character of your property.

  • Creative documentation that reflects the space’s historical and artistic significance.

Our Focus

We have a particular interest in Rococo, Baroque, and late Baroque interiors, but we also document unique or unusual architectural features wherever we find them. From ornate ceilings and decorative wall panels to intimate boutique spaces and grand public halls, our goal is to preserve and share the visual and historical richness of each location.

Get in Touch

If your property or venue has historic or distinctive interiors and you would like to explore a collaboration, please contact us. We are happy to discuss mutually beneficial arrangements that honour the space while providing professional documentation for your archives or promotional use.

Photographic Study Sets are curated groupings of photographic studies created for viewers who prefer to look slowly and observe closely. Each set is drawn from a single architectural subject, presenting carefully selected fragments that allow structure, ornament, and atmosphere to unfold through detail rather than through the full image.

Printed on archival paper and produced in limited quantities, each card functions as an individual study while also forming part of a cohesive visual sequence. Presented together, the set invites comparison, reflection, and a deeper understanding of how light, form, and craftsmanship reveal themselves across a single space.

Designed as collectible objects rather than stationery, Study Sets are intended to be handled, arranged, and revisited over time — small photographic editions that bridge the space between prints and books within the ongoing Always Look Up
project.

Study Sets invite you to see one photograph slowly — through fragments, details, and shifting scale.

Each set offers a quieter way of collecting photography — one detail at a time.

Study Sets are released in small editions. From time to time, special folio or archive versions
may be produced as part of the studio’s ongoing work.

Archive & Closed Editions

Completed works and editions that are no longer in production. These titles are preserved within the studio archive and are not available for sale.

The Studio is the working heart of the practice, where photography, research, and craft come together through slow, self-directed processes. It is a private working space dedicated to the development of original photographic work and the making of handcrafted books produced solely as part of the studio’s own publishing output.

Within the studio, analogue and contemporary photographs are carefully developed, edited, and prepared alongside the interpretation of historical and archival imagery drawn from personal and research-based collections. Black-and-white photographs are developed and printed using traditional methods, with close attention to tonal depth, material choice, and longevity. Selected images are hand tinted using historically informed techniques, allowing colour to be reintroduced with restraint while preserving the character and integrity of the original photograph.

The studio also functions as a small bindery, where photographic books are designed and hand crafted from start to finish. Each publication is individually made — from image sequencing and paper selection to binding and finishing — using archival materials intended to endure. These books are produced as limited editions or unique works, shaped by long-form photographic projects rather than external commissions.

All activity within the studio is guided by a considered, deliberate pace, prioritising material quality, process, and meaning over volume. The work produced here is not service-led, but practice-led — grounded in photography as both record and artefact, and in bookmaking as a means of preserving images, memory, and heritage.

Always Look Up

A Handcrafted Photobook for the Soul

The First Volume of “A Life in Motion”

Lens & Legacy Studio presents: Audrey Marie, photographer and author, inviting you into a signature series drawn from her lifelong portfolio, A Life in Motion.

For more than two decades, we have lived a life in motion — between countries, cultures, languages, and light. My photographs are fragments of that journey: quiet mornings, small chapels, winding streets, and the tender rhythm of motherhood and solitude. Each image carries the fingerprint of a life observed slowly.

Always Look Up is the first journey of Lens & Legacy Studio brought to life in a hand-crafted, limited-edition photo book. Through decades of analogue and digital photography, it captures the quiet grandeur of architecture, the delicate details of heritage ceilings, and moments of light and shadow observed across Europe. Each book is printed on archival paper, hand-bound with care, and designed as a tactile heirloom — a vessel of memory, craft, and the slow, deliberate art of seeing. Always Look Up invites you to pause, reflect, and explore the world from a perspective both intimate and expansive.

Always Look Up — Volume I from A Life in Motion is the first published book from A Life in Motion, a lifetime of photographic exploration. This limited-edition hand-bound book captures ceilings, cornices, and elevated architectural details often passed beneath without pause.

Each copy is signed, numbered, and printed on archival paper, reflecting the slow, deliberate practice behind the images. Our perspective and expertise in architecture and historical landscapes have informed the sequencing and framing of the series, enriching the work with an intergenerational lens.

The 'A Life in Motion' series gathers images and reflections from twenty years of wandering, observing, and finding stillness in motion. Each book celebrates the beauty of imperfection in analogue photography and the intimacy of a hand-made object, offering a vessel that holds memory, light, and story.

This is not a mass-produced object.
It is an artefact of touch and time — a vessel of memory, imperfection, and light.

LEGACY VOLUMES

Handcrafted Ancestral Books of Service & Remembrance

Legacy Volumes are research-led photographic books grounded in heritage, history, and place. Drawing on archival imagery, contemporary photography, and aerial perspectives, each volume forms an image-centred narrative that honours memory with restraint and care.

Created by Lens & Legacy Studio, these one-of-a-kind publications trace the wartime journeys of individual soldiers through landscape, image, and rigorously grounded research. They are not souvenirs, but contemporary heirlooms — conceived as permanent objects of remembrance.

Each volume is built slowly by hand and authored through a careful dialogue between historical record, lived geography, and photographic interpretation. Archival material and present-day image-making are brought together to reflect the histories carried by both soldiers and their families.

At Lens & Legacy Studio, remembrance is approached with responsibility and presence. The work begins in the landscape itself — walking the terrain, understanding place, and shaping visual narratives that allow past and present to exist in quiet conversation.
