LEGACY VOLUMES

LEGACY VOLUMES
Handcrafted Ancestral Books of Service & Remembrance

Legacy Volumes brings together research-led photographic works grounded in heritage, history, and place. These publications draw on archival imagery, contemporary photography, and aerial perspectives to create image-centred narratives that honour memory without spectacle.

At Lens & Legacy Studio, we create one-of-a-kind photographic books that honour the wartime journeys of individual soldiers through image, landscape, and carefully grounded research.

These volumes are not souvenirs.
They are contemporary heirlooms.

Each book is conceived as a permanent object of remembrance — built slowly by hand and authored through a collaboration between historical record, lived geography, and photographic interpretation.
"History is the witness of the past, the light of the truth, the living memory,
the teacher of life, the messenger of antiquity." ~ Cicero

WHAT WE CREATE

Every Legacy Volume we produce centres on a single individual or family connection.

Within its pages, fragments of a life are gathered and respectfully brought into conversation:
-
archival portraits and service documentation
-
battlefield locations connected to movement and engagement
-
memorials, graves, and regimental traces

-
Turner Jack’s photographic aerial perspectives revealing terrain and spatial history
-
Audrey Marie’s analogue and observational photography of place, atmosphere, and presence
-

Through sequencing rather than heavy narration, the story emerges visually — allowing viewers to experience distance, sacrifice, and continuity across time.

AN OBJECT HANDCRAFTED FOR GENERATIONS

Each volume is:
-
hand printed
-
hand assembled
-
hand stitched or bound
-
produced using archival, museum-grade materials
No templates. No automation. No repetition.

Every copy is made as a singular work intended to live within a family, a collection,
or an institutional archive for generations.

OUR APPROACH

We work from a position of care and responsibility.
Living among the landscapes of the Western Front, we return repeatedly to the ground where history unfolded. The work is built through walking, observation, mapping, and patient research.
The result is not simply information.
It is presence.

AUTHORSHIP & COLLABORATION

These books are created through the combined practices of:
Audrey Marie — analogue photographer, printer, and booksmith, responsible for visual narrative, material construction, and final authorship.
Turner Jack Hunter — aerial photographer and historical researcher, contributing spatial understanding, battlefield geography, and contemporary terrain interpretation.

Together, the studio brings intergenerational perspective to acts of remembrance.
FOR FAMILIES, COLLECTORS & INSTITUTIONS

Legacy Volumes are commissioned by descendants, acquired by collectors, and sought by those wishing to reconnect with personal or regimental history through tangible form.

Each book becomes a bridge between past and present — allowing those unable to travel to hold the landscape of memory in their hands.

BEGIN A CONVERSATION

Because of the depth of research and the handcrafted nature of the work, only a limited number of volumes can be undertaken each year.

A Note to Families & Future Custodians
FUTURE LEGACY VOLUMES
Handcrafted Ancestral Books of Service & Remembrance

From the desk of the studio, we recognise that every archive begins with a family and a question. Beyond the volumes presently available, future editions will allow for deeper investigation, broader historical framing, and the patient gathering of materials that may still be waiting to surface.

For descendants and custodians who wish to consider a work developed more extensively — shaped through research, correspondence, site visits, and time — we invite you to enter into conversation with us. Together we may determine how a record of service can be translated into a lasting object of memory, held with dignity for the generations that follow.
