ARCHITECTURAL STUDIES

Architectural Digital Studies series presents a quiet photographic examination of historic interiors across Europe. Each study focuses on a single location and offers a concise visual and architectural observation intended to encourage careful looking.
These studies are not travel guides or historical essays. They are visual documents — small architectural observations that explore how space, structure, ornament, and light shape the interior experience of a building.
Each study centres on a carefully composed photographic plate of a nave, ceiling, dome, or interior structure. This image is accompanied by a page of architectural notes identifying the key structural and stylistic elements visible within the space.
The intention is simple: to slow the viewer down and invite a more attentive way of seeing architecture.
Study Format
Each Architectural Digital Study is presented as a two-page digital document (PDF) designed for viewing on screen or printing for personal study.
Page One
A full photographic plate presenting the architectural interior — often a view of the nave, vault, ceiling, or dome.
Page Two
Architectural observations including:
• architectural period and stylistic influences
• structural features and decorative elements
• notes on spatial composition and light
• the location and context of the building
• a secondary supporting image when appropriate
Purpose
These studies are created for readers who wish to look more closely at historic architecture.
They may be of particular interest to:
• architecture students
• teachers and educators
• travellers interested in historic buildings
• photographers studying architectural space
• collectors interested in architectural interiors
Each study functions as a small architectural reference document — a visual note from the Lens & Legacy archive.
From the Lens & Legacy Archive
The photographs included in this series are drawn from the growing Lens & Legacy Architectural Archive, developed through decades of travel and observation across Europe’s churches, cathedrals, civic interiors, and historic buildings.
The archive forms the research foundation for the studio’s books, printed study sets, and future collector editions.

At its core, Lens & Legacy Studio exists to hold what might otherwise be lost — images, places, histories, and quiet details that rarely announce themselves. It is a practice concerned not with spectacle, but with attention; not with volume, but with meaning; and with the belief that photographs, when carefully made and carefully kept, can become part of a living legacy. Our Mission is to create tangible photographic objects - prints, books, and paper correspondence - that invite people to slow down, observe closely, and live with images as part of daily life.
